I enjoy the chance to ride and chat to people I've never met and I like riding in big groups, especially as it usually settles into a group of riders of similar speed/ability. Of course, there are complet knobs too, but cycling is a cross section of society.

The last two have had free food/nibbles ranging from buckets of jelly babies to bananas and flapjack, with free cake and biscuits for the stop, with drinks being SIS electrolyte drinks to top upon whilst downing coffee/tea. One had a completely free massage at the end (felt like a fraud as it was only forty miles) to the other which had a paid massage (£10/20 mins) but also had an ice-bath which was weirdly satisfying. If the weather's nice, then it's nice to hang around and talk cycle blah, blah whilst often listening to a band.

I've done a couple with a girl from work recently and ended up talking to loads of peoples wives whilst they talk to my companion. I say companion, because she is just a friend from work, albeit a 21yo blonde one. Helps break the ice...

Don't get too carried away with your prejudices.

No prejudices here, but suspect you may have some. I've been on a couple of audaxes and enjoyed them, same with sportives.

I have done one and will do the route again with out paying the entrance fee as the sign on was a shambles as there was massive queues to get number and timing chip while a guy on a microphone trying to get riders out on the road. When i got everything on my bike and went to the timing chip scanner i got told that there was no motorbike escort as it had gone with a group of riders and it was my fault apparently due to not getting there in time i did say it was due to queues. I can't fault the feed station as it was well stocked with a range of food.

I've done a couple and probably won't do any more. Nothing wrong with them but too expensive for what they are. The time from the chip is meaningless and the food consists of a few bananas, flapjack and jelly babies. Having a young family also means I'm not likely to hang about afterwards eating burgers and basking in my own glory.

Ride London is clearly different but I still didn't partake of the free gels (indeed I threw the ones given at the end in the bin a couple of weeks ago)
You're not supposed to throw them in the bin! You throw them on the road, verge or even better in a deer park

This is the second thread where you've mentioned her, people are beginning to talk...
Then you can imagine the work rumour mill. It's as amusing as it is inaccurate.

And it's three threads if we're keeping tabs! To be fair, all mentions were very much on-topic as she was the witness, it was an organised event and she is borrowing one of my bikes.
