I wish they'd change the name so we didn't have to have these 'but he hasn't got a personality!' discussions every bloody year. Sports Personality, in the sense of the award, just means Sportsman or Sportswoman of the year.
If it's about personality it's between Wiggins, Enis and Farah. Farah has a softer more middle-ground family image then Wiggins, and is seen more on TV competeting then Ennis, so will take it I reckon. Though I think it should go to Wiggins for the Tour de France victory. Murray's too unpopular amongst some English circles.

Current Paddy Power odds:

Wiggins 6/5
Farah 9/4
Murray 5/2
Ennis 10/1
Wiggo for me just for winning TDF that was mega......David Weir is worth a shout hes an awesome athlete

I don't understand Mo Farah - sure he won, and he definitely has a personality, but those brothers who did the triathlon doing the 10k about 90 seconds slower than Farah, who hadn't just swam and cycled - that's more of an acheivment in my eyes.

I think Mo Farah will get it. Although I'll be voting for Wiggins. Farah has a more public image, 2 gold medals and he beat "The Cube".

Its about beating world-class opposition. Triathlon is still a bit of a minority sport, whereas 5,000 and 10,000m are dominated by the East Africans who have a scary strength in depth. Can't make the national team? Then defect to Qatar or similar and get in the team there! This doesn't mean that no other countries are interested. Before the African domination there was no one country that excelled here - they all gave it a go.
Also, looking at past athletes that have done the long-distance double - this is a very rare and special achievement, putting him in the upper echelons of the history of long-distance runners. The Brownlees are only the best at the moment. History has yet to record their place in the all-time greats.

The juxtapostion of your positive comment and your negative avatar is very odd.

you need to read the other olympics post to see why i have the "negative " avatar.

in short- no issue with the athletes or the actual sporting events, am terribly proud of what the GBs have done. Its all the tag ons in the name of the olympics that i object to.

the closing of towpaths and the official diversion being Bow roundabout FFS.

The broken promises by LOCOG and ODA.

Ive got a bet on for Wiggins 1st, Farah 2nd... made after Mo won one of his races but before the 2nd and the media circus, could still be good  Conflictingly I also have a pre-season bet on Hamilton to win this year - not really a fan I just knew McLarens would be fast as I geek F1 too much - but that could have an effect.

Interesting that people mention both Hamilton and Murray as having no personality, although IMO most top sportsmen are restricted in what they can say, its interesting that these two were mentioned as theyre both managed by XIX (Simon Fuller).
