Menin gate, every evening, the last post by Belgian service buglers. Forget dry eye. Leaves you contemplating the waste of so many young lives on both sides.

On Saturday evening last week, a choir from the UK did God Save The Queen too. That was the tears point for me.

did you visit Tyncote Allied cemetery as well??
the scale of the losses in mind blowing!!!

Yes, I went to the Menin Gate once and I've never forgotten it.

As well as the larger memorials, if you drive around the countryside in that area you seem to come across another small cemetery with military headstones every few hundred yards. It's hard to imagine such widespread loss.

Yes. Went to Tyne Cot. Also visited the German one at Langemark. Our guide, a friend and a serving Lt Col, did a great job and also showed us how the lie of the land led to the stalemate at Ypres.

I spent a week in June last year walking the battlefields around Ypres/Ieper.
I went to the Last Post ceremony each night. A truely moving experience.
