What about Laura Trott you lot !

she has just helped smash a world record and continued to have an amazing year after the Olympics.
She'd get my vote (not that I'd ever vote) but she's not in the list. Mo looks more likely than Murray to me. I doubt Ainslie is known well enough and Ennis has been largely out of the public eye since the Olympics.

Ainslie is a great personality but that really counts for nought. He did amazingly well in the Americas Cup which is a sport I have no interest in! He is a top bloke though who I'd happily let buy me a pint!

How? He's an American IIRC?

4 Gold and 1 Silver Olympic medals.

At 2012 Olympics he did one of the great sporting come-backs (bit like the America's cup) - he did that famous, "they shouldn't have made me angry".

Many times World Champ in various classes. An absolutely ferocious competitor.

Having said that, I can't see past Murray.

Hard to see past Murray

As for his personality - i find him to be quite dry and humourous although less so in interviews these days. Apparently he made the decision to be boring in interviews to avoid controversy. I dont blame him either - sections of the media and others still bring up his 'anyone but England' comment which was a throw away remark he made over 7 years ago when he was about 18!

I rather like Murray - he handles the media pretty well, and we shouldn't underestimate the weight of expectation on his shoulders ever since he emerged as a promising teenager.

No, he won the America's Cup, but he's defo British. He's a Knight and has won four gold medals for GB.

I know, my tongue was in my cheek and I have much respect for Ainslie's talents. It's a shame we don't see more sailing on TV and also it'd be good if Sir Ben could induce some bloated capitalist to sponsor a UK bid for the America's Cup instead of having to help the Yanks maintain their grip on the thing.
