Heat will of course wreck the paintwork. How attached are you to this bike frame. Seems like you now have something new to you. If you decide to keep it you may find that getting a bar welded across the bearing cover will certainly make it easier to move. Beats buying special tools. While getting a bar welded on ask them to heat it up for you. Good Luck

Not particularly attached at all, it will make a good back up bike but that's about it, hadn't even thought about just welding a bar to the face of the cup, that's a very good idea, should be easier than trying to find the right sized bolt to weld to it, I've got a stick welder & blow torch so will give it a go when i have a bit of free time.

The only use that frame has now is for having fun with, as a fettling project. Otherwise, how far away is your nearest tip?

Its metal, half an hour left leaning on the front garden wall and it will be whisked away by the scrap metal van!
