If anyone finds the following offensive in any way I apologise in advance......
I've recently started cycling again and am really enjoying it...there's just one thing that is really starting to get on my nerves....whenever I wear shorts with padding in it squashes my nuts and gets pretty uncomfortable...my first shorts were muddy fox baggy shorts with the lycra and padding in which were unbelievabley crap I then got some normal cycling shorts (aldi specials ) with padding in and thought ahhh these are better but I have the same problem...as I've already spent a bucket load of cash on buying a bike...helmet...shoes...pedals...etc I'm a bit reluctant to buy a proper good pair of shorts incase the same thing happens...I seem to be more comfortable with no padding but most shorts I look at are padded... is this something that gets easier with better quality shorts...(I quite like the bib shorts)... or can you buy un padded lycra shorts...does anyone else have this annoying thing...

I suppose it depends where you place the offending articles.

Do you just pull your shorts on and go, or do you take time to arrange your body parts? All 3 items in my shopping trolley get pulled forward and upwards so they're as out of the way as can be. Doesn't look pretty, but I ain't doing it for the benefit of others!

Wiggles DHB brand are really good value for money if you fancy bibs. And yes, if you spend a bit more you should get more comfort.

Now that's a weird one. I've ridden in unpadded and padded and never really had any probs [back in the day we rode in what we had on at the time -jeans, shorts whatever]. Just wondering if the saddle you are using is either A - set up ok or B - just not the one for you. Maybe try a ride on another bike with a different saddle ?

What he says ^^^
also try planet-x
£30 http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CLPXRLBS/on-one-raceline-bib-shorts but can be had for £25 on ebay
The padding is supposed to be next to the skin and not move, so it as to be quite tight, which is why bibs are better than shorts as they pull up. These are ok, for the price, never bought more expensive ones yet, however since I got the my saddle broke and I have been a little sore (not from the broken saddle), ok upto 2-3 hrs.

Done a few W.N.B.R, whilst its ok for the few short miles of the rides, its not how I would want to ride the bike longer distances.

As others have advised, you need to 'dress' your tackle prior to being seated, failure to do so will result in discomfort. Whether you go for the 'forwards and upwards', 'lift and tuck' or 'lift and seperate' is down to personal preference....
I once failed to dress correctly whilst entering a confined space. Suffice to say being winched out of said space with full body harness digging in all the wrong places is not an experience I wish to repeat

Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
Get some proper padded bib shorts, get your bits out of the way before you ride, during the ride stand up regularly and try to take you weight on your thighs as much as possible rather than just plant yourself on th esaddle like an armchair for th eride duration....regular change of position keeps blood flowing to the parts other beers cannot reach.
