So, I was at this little local bike festival, and there was a second hand bike auction, and...

She (and oddly, I think this one is a she, whereas all my others are he) is a Raleigh Jeep.

Date not known at the moment, people there suggested early 70's. A bit tatty in places on the paintwork, single speed, 24" wheels. Just on the dinky side, but with the seat up, I fit.

It was a bit of an impulse, I just fell in love.... She is an early birthday present, and as I wheeled her away, for the princely sum of £15, several people commented on how lovely she is. She glitters in the sun.

She will live here, here not being York, so that I have a bike for using when I am here myself.

I do like the read and gold, but you'd have to sort out the white saddle and grips

Well, initially, I thought that, but I'm going to use it a bit and see how I get on with them. I fancy keeping it as original as possible.

A little research shows that it would have had a partial chainguard, so there's something to look out for!

Very nice Arch.
You do know that 'here' is not as flat as York don't you? ;)

Well, very few places are as flat as York. You're assuming I'm not in the Fens. Or Holland.

I am wondering whether to build a flip flop hub into a 24" rim, and finally find out what all this fixed fuss is about...

That's kind of what I meant, don't want your legs to get a shock at the sight of a speed bump

Don't listen to them rough types, the white is fine for a girlie bike. You being such a girlie-girl too!

Listen not to Mr '3 sandwiches short of a picnic', get any colour saddle you like but not white

Forget anything MacShallow says, the white saddle is soooo 70s - it's stays put.

If you change the grips and saddle, you'll have spent more than the bike cost. I had to by £7.99 grips for my £40 Mountain bike, that's 19.975% of my original purchase price - crazy money!

Nice find, Arch. I am sure my younger cousin had one of those, in the same colour scheme, when we were pre-teens. That would put it about early 70's right enough .
