Ive been having some fun and games with them.
i have half a dozen atm and there eating everything.
so i changed from table and feeders hanging off the garage to a pole and hanging feeders.
they quickly realised the game had changed and are now trying to suss this pole prblem.
i put some grease on the pole half way up which is hilariouse..and has stopped them shinning up..
and so far they haven't managed a 5ft leap ..

i wont shoot anything anymore..so its a battle of wills..

Any more tails of squirel wars? Did you win or were you beaten into submission?

Here's one of the gang knocking on the door and asking why im not playing fair...

My mum has a bird feeder in the garden, the squirrels used to make short work of the food provided for the birds. Easy solution, I purchased a couple of ten inch plastic plant pots, cut one pot open from the centre all the way down one side, ease open the cut and place around bird feeder pole upside down. using string and the holes in the base of the plant pot secure in place approximately halfway up the bird feeder pole.
the squirrels cannot get past an upturned plant pot, they climb up into the pot and have to come back down.
Another method is to use a length of soil pipe, insert your feeder pole into the pipe and drive into the ground, the squirrels cannot grip the wide diameter pipe.

Apparently they don't like chilli powder but it doesn't bother the birds.

We still have red squirrels in this part of the world so I'm not very tolerant of greys.

At meta lon says, it doesn't work. The squirels still ate the food. As for the birds, they don't have any taste buds apparently, thats why they can eat food smoothered in chilli powder and or anything else.

Cake or ice cream? The choice is endless ...

My bird feeder has everything strategically placed so that the pigeons can only get the bread, and the squirrels can only just reach and nibble at the nuts by hanging half upsidedown from the bread tray.
That leaves plenty of food for the flock of tits and smaller birds.

Did the greasy pole stuff............really funny.
You can buy squirrel proof feeders at a cost.
Mine were getting braver & braver........on the conservatory roof then on the main roof. The last thing you want is a squirrel in your attic.......it can cost you LOADS of money to repair electric cables etc.
No help to you but I found a 22 rifle a good solution.
BTW.........do you know that if you trap a squirrel it is illegal to release them as they are vermin......rats with bushy tails.
