What do you reckon? I kind of like the idea

38 to 54 ring choice and quite a few choices including 10-42 on the 11 speed rear

It would be interesting to see if you could get a ratio that allows climbing and a decent speed on the flat if you like to spin.

I definitely like the idea, nice and simple halfway between a full geared bike and single speed. I think you could easily get a full range for climbing and speed, but with a 10-42 cassette the gaps between the ratios would be huge!

Yeah that would be my issue that you wouldn't have enough variety to find a sweet spot for your prefered cadence on rolling roads.

Quite fancy it myself.

My little Charge Grater hybrid has a single (38t) chainring and an 11 - 32 8 speed cassette and it covers most of the terrain round here no problem.
