Sorry, the face plate with the two holes is actually a reverse thread - So make sure you're trying to unscrew it clockwise!

Alternate between each hole you are hitting to make sure you are applying even forces.

This should have been off by now

I did this just the other week to remove a seven speed freewheel from my sons bike. As a teenager myself I often used to split and then rebuild the old freewheels so I could swap them between wheels and continue to use them and I never had any problems due to this. Last week I used mole grips to remove the freewheel core as my vice is currently without a bench to fasten to.

Those notches still look too shallow to me, and as its a Shimano I am sure it should be splined on the inside face of the freewheel
Sorry PpPete, and.......? I'm really not familiar with the workings of these things TBH

I thought the notches where part of the threaded hub body, no? I

If not are you saying THIS tool will fit?

I think this tool will fit. It's a Shimano so there should be splines on the inside face of the freewheel (facing the axle). Those shallow notches are an irrelevance and the FR2 won't fit them.

However...if you have a LBS where they know you, and you take just the wheel in a clean condition and with an inflated tyre on it (to provide a nice comfy grip) -they might just do it for £0. Mine will, as they know there is always something else I'll buy while i'm in there.

That freewheel looks like the first pic inside, and needs the TL-FW40 shown in the 2nd pic to remove unless you are happy to take it apart.

Because of the time and cost for one time I would suggest a competent local LBS, which can to do it in 2 minutes, if one exists.

The SF 1200 is a threaded freewheel. Do any single speed freewheels have splines?
No, they all have some sort of notch built in for removal,
those tools mentioned above are for cassettes

Freewheel and track cog now removed courtesy of my LBS.

Both parts has to be destroyed due being a) cheap ass parts, and b) dry fitted with not the slightest smear of grease present!

New cog on its way, copper slip at the ready, track session booked for Friday 19th October at 8am!!

Thanks for all the tips fellas

TBH I wasn't bothered about destroying it. It was a seriously low rent piece of crap and I've never used it and had no intention of doing either. Initially thought I might get a couple of quid for it, but after reading all the desiory comments online about these freewheels I just decided to get i ttaken off by any means neccessary, and TBH even the LBS struggled with it.

Sorted now, ready for my shiny new 15T Halo cog to arrive
