Hope it's a heavy table! I used to use a very large, very heavy, very firmly bolted to a very heavy bench, mechanics vice .
I've since inherited the vice, but not the bench, however have no freewheels on any of my current bikes - all cassettes.
That's a good point! I might try it outside clamped to a fence! :banghead:

Don't forget to put one of the wheel nuts on (or QR in) after locating the removal tool's tabs in the freewheel's slots before exerting any pressure on it. Hand tight will do, stops it slipping out and hurting you/it. Remove it once you've loosened it obviously...

That sir is a genius tip! Could save some bother! Will report back tomorrow how I get on.

It's off! Muhahaha! Although not by me... I ended up breaking the vice I borrowed! It was quite old so wouldn't hold firm when spinning the wheel, so I tried it in the side spinning vertically and it eventually popped out of itself and the rail had snapped?! *flexes*

So went to my LBS and they popped it off no problem right there and then for free. Praise for Ken Foster's in Chorlton, my new fave bike shop

The new one is a dream, will take better care of it than the last. Thanks for all the advice everyone.
