St.Pancras to Victoria route advice please

Hi all, I've done a search to see if I'm going over old ground but I can't find any info so can I ask if there is any decent route from St.Pancras International to London Victoria. I have tried it twice (this morning even venturing into Hyde Park as I had plenty of time - lovely it was too) but I need something quick-ish for when time is tight. Any help most welcome,

Cheers, Bill

This is the route I have done:

Onto Euston road, turn left down Gower St, keep going straight down until you get to a T junction, turn right then bear left at traffic lights. Immediately bear left into Monmouth St, straight over seven dials, again, keep straight on until you get to a T junction. Turn right here (there is a cycle facility that allows this) then left towards King Charles Island and Nelsons Column (can be busy). Third exit onto the Mall, straight along towards Buckingham Palace, at the end bear left then turn right onto Buckingham Gate. Straight on at the lights then turn left at the next lights (Bressenden Place, you will see signs to Victoria Station by now) then the road bends left at which point you will see the station on your right about 100 yards away. At this point the easiest thing to do is dismount and walk to the station.

Thank you, both routes seem to be good enough for me. I haven't picked the right week this week as the roads are abnormally busy with Christmas traffic. I shall give both routes a try and go from there. My fastest time so far, without really trying and catching all the lights around the Telecom Tower area, is 33 minutes

Thanks again and Merry Christmas

al78's route is probably the most direct, but a bit more fiddly than gaz's, if you know what I mean...

gaz's route is nice because the roads are all wide and it's nice and fast and simple...

If you want to ride a more alleycat style, then go for al78's!!!!

I tried Gaz's route the other day but almost immediately came unstuck when I didn't know where to go at the start of the underpass at Euston  I wimped out and fell back on my fiddly route via Tottenham Court Road, New Cavendish St (almost to Marylebone High Street) then down to Victoria via Marble Arch, Park Lane, Hyde Park Corner and the little cycle route round the back of the Victoria pub into the station itself. 30 minutes is about the best I seem to be able to do it in - but it's a pretty reliable 30 minutes which is the main thing.

Happy New Year all,

Bill

Just ride through the underpass, it's fine, and good fun!

Never had any problems down there. It's normally backed up eastbound anyway...

you say that young Zimmers, but last week's trip through the underpass brought forth threats of divorce/dismemberment from the love of my life....

mind you - the Picadilly underpass westbound is worth a considerable diversion...

I usually use the underpass too.

Underpass for me also. I might mix up your rides Bill...maybe duck left into Woburn Plce/ Southampton Row towards the Embankment then hit Victoria from behind - via Victoria Street, if you know what I mean...I'm not so bothered about time - just the sights to see.

al78s route is a good one. It's similar to the route I take in the mornings going to work (I arrive into Euston on the train and then cycle down to Victoria). You should be able to get this done in about 25 mins, unless you're unfortunate enough to be held up by all of the traffic lights.

Last night (Sunday) I gave Al78's route a go, and very impressed I was too. I arrived at St.Pancras and (once through the barrier at the High Speed Trains end) I glanced at the time and it was 19:52. My only (I think) deviation from the suggested route was to turn left out of the station heading up towards Goods Way where I then did a double left and came down to Euston Road that way. From then on it was just as Al78 said. I was overtaken by the same bendy-bus about five times before the bottom of Gower Street but once over the fiddly bit at the T-junction and into Monmouth Street it was quiet and pretty much plain sailing. Trafalgar Square and The Mall were deathly silent as everybody seemed to be at home, the restaurants weren't doing much trade. I arrived at the Central Side entrance to Victoria and walked to the barriers for Platforms 15-17 and checked the time....20:16. That's the 24 minutes that the TfL website allows for it's own recommended route so, what with it also being MY best time to date, I was a very happy man last night. Obviously once all the workers, tourists etc. are back things might slow down a bit, but my ability to avoid hold-ups will improve once I have found those little cut-throughs that London always gives us cyclists. Thank you all for your suggestions....I shall keep the others in mind for those days when I need another route to keep thing interesting.
