Anderson, the multi instrumentalist flautist, saxophonist, whistle player, guitarist (electric and virtuoso acoustic), bassist, keyboard and piano player, drummer, and inventor of the claghorn is several levels of magnitude above the likes of The Eagles in terms of instrument playing prowess. That is perhaps why the Eagles supported JT on several tours throughout the 70s, and never the other way around.

And do it whilst balancing on one leg!!!

Elegy was written by the arranger David Palmer, not Anderson, and is credited to Palmer on the album Stormwatch. Seeing as Anderson never wrote it, and has never claimed to have written it, I can't see how he is ripping off Bach with it.
I know it's dead unfashionable but I prefer Led Zep's version of this. The music is really menacing. The guitar playing is amazing.
John Bonham's drums on that have been been sampled extensively for electronic tracks. It's surprisingly funky when it's sped up.

Palmer was only a temporary member, as following the death of John Glascock early on during the recording of Stormwatch Anderson also had to play bass on the album, as well as his usual vocals, flute, guitars and mandolin. This was quite a lot to keep one man busy, so Palmer stepped in to cover keyboards and some aspects of production. Prior to that his role was assisting Anderson with arranging the orchestral pieces during recording. He did tour briefly with the band following the album, but was gone by A, which was Anderson and Barre plus a room full of session musicians. As I'm sure you know, the cold war paranoia inspired A was intended right up until the last minute to be Anderson's first solo album, but Chrysalis were in dire financial straits and persuaded Anderson to release it under the JT name in the hope of higher sales, which Chrysalis badly needed to survive. At the time A and the later Under Wraps were not well received by fans, but 35 years in and some of my favourite JT tracks come from that album.
