When I was a kid we used to have the Police come to the school and stamp our postcode on the bike.

Do the Police still do this? Is it worthwhile?

Just wondering whether to go and get it done.

I got the local PCSO to come to the office a few months ago and she brought (and gave away) some invisible ink marker pens.

Yeah I've done this with our tele and valuables, etc. But would the pen last and be visible on a bike after a few months of heavy use? I took my bike out yesterday and it was covered in crud by the time I got home, needed a good clean down.

I'm not saying it won't work, but just wondering if the pens are man enough (so to speak).

Thanks, will ask. Thinking about it, I actually have a contact for our local police so I could check with them. But the microdot also seems interesting.

If your bike frame is made from anything other than steel, stamping it will cause some serious damage!

ohh, better not do that then. Just got in touch with the local police and they dropped round some stickers for me.
I'm not sure this will work, as I'm sure they can just be peeled off. BUt something's better than nothing for the moment I suppose.

See and there I was coming on this post to say that if a police officer had stamped on you, you must have been EXTREMELY dangerous to justify that use of force!

lol. Being "Big Jim", they'd have to use a lot of stamping to make any difference.
