Just to correct your initial assumption.

Touring is not about riding from A to B.

Touring is about starting from A and riding in the direction of B. You must then search for as many people and events to stop you getting to B.

If it is about getting from A to B, get a bus.

Touring rides will be remembered for the people you meet and the things you see. B is only remembered for being the end of a good trip-

Thanks, although when I said "enjoying the bit in between at your own pace" that's pretty much what I was getting at.

The reason touring appeals so much is exactly the reasons you state - I love meeting people, the world is full of amazing folk with stuff to say!

Me too - I'd take anything over a bus in most cases including walking on broken glass!

Yes - although we're completely new to this & we still have to purchase bikes that are upto the task of touring & kit etc so it'll be next year when we're in a position to do a tour.

I'm thinking we'll do a bit of Northumberland as my parents live there & we can leave the baby with them plus if something gies badly wrong they're only a quick phone call and ride away to SOS!!!
