That's absolutely right. My cars speedometer reads slightly over optimistic compared to the sat nav, which is a good thing really as it keeps you on the right side of speed camera limits.
As is the intention. The speedo is not allowed to be pessimistic...

Indeed. For any statistical measurements to be useful, one should take into account the relative proportions of atoms of bicycle and atoms of cyclist merging between the two of them, and that would need to be carefully ascertained at both the beginning and the end of the ride.

The main U.S. office of the Dalkey Archive*, which publishes little known books like The Third Policeman, is less than 30 miles away, it would seem remiss not to take a bicycle tour there.
*Another book by Brian O'Nuillan/Flann O'Brien.
