Cycling home tonight, dark country lane, looked behind and saw a silhouette of a bloke on a bike. Stealth Cyclist. All in black, no lights. Fookin crapped myself!!!! Then realised it was the kid (i say kid... about 18) that I'd seen crossing the traffic lights about 10 mins before. Let him catch up, gave him my reflective ankle straps and turned out he was going to see his mom in my village. He'd got caught out in the dark and was trying to steal my light... so i did the decent thing and let him use my beam of light. He's frickin lucky i was around, no way would he have made it down that country lane with no lights.

Ah I know that one. Driving into work today came down the road and just caught the sight of a girl on a bike no lights no hi viz nothing. A bit daft when you think that it was 04.00 am. And.it was an unlit country road. Did she not realise at that time off day it was DARK. My misses says when I go out the door I look like a mobile xmas tree on steriods.

Last night around 10pm. Road bike commuter. MTB style rear mudguard attached to seat post facing up!!!! Just above that a rear light :wtf
No one could see his light as the guard was blocking it. Wanted to take a pic but I was driving

Almost as good as cyclists who have one rear light on the top of a rucksack, obviously looks OK when standing but once on a bike becomes invisible, except to low flying aircraft.

Yep see that A LOT in London. I am starting to get this impulse to open my passenger window and tell these ninja's i can't see them as speeds are low enough to have a conversation.

Ive never understood the point of bag mounts for rear lights for this very reason. Keep it on a fixed position is surely the sensible option?

I've heard a cyclist argue his preference for bag and body mounted lights was that he'd rather he was lit up if he parted company with the bike on a dark road and couldn't get up.
Of course, that assumes he doesn't land on the lights when he comes off.

I think it quite likely that cyclists who have never driven are quite unaware of the fact that car drivers are practically blind at night without lights whereas cyclists can usually manage quite well unless there is a combination of no moon and a thickly wooded area.

My commute home takes me on an old disused railway line. Ive good lights but every now and then I take a look behind just in case. It's pitch dark this time of year but it does keep me motivated to keep a decent speed up.
