My commute home takes me on an old disused railway line. Ive good lights but every now and then I take a look behind just in case. It's pitch dark this time of year but it does keep me motivated to keep a decent speed up.
I've never been spooked on the bike like that before, first time I've actually felt vulnerable as a woman riding home in the dark and it was just bcoz he forgot his lights LOL

I very often cycle along paths with my lights switched off as I find I can see a lot more round about me once my eyes have got used to the dark. I'll no doubt see you before you see me, so I'll switch my lights on to indicate my presence.

If that gives you a fright, then... tough!! (To be fair, I REALLY should stop giving an evil laugh as I approach!) :giggle:

I keep hearing noises behind me but I think it could be my rucksack scratching on my jacket or helmet.
I still crap myself when a pair of eyes comes running towards me only to dart off to the side at the last minute. Foxes are common and in the summer I hit 2 bats on my commute home.

Buggi's a girl!!!!

I remember years and years ago a friend and myself got stuck out in the sticks after dark with only a rear light between us... it was a very scary 4-5 miles till we finally got off the pitch black windy country lanes and onto the cycle track.
