If they are no good how do these shopping channel TV companies get away with it?

You'd swear they were the best thing since sliced bread and the adverts look pretty convincing, but then they get shot down in flames in the reviews.

I was looking at one of the 'Paint Pad Pro' things as endorsed by Tommy Walsh. Again, the advert made it look fantastic when decorating and you couldn't really argue with the results. But, then the reviews say the product is total rubbish.

I guess if the stuff was any good it would be out there on mainstream TV and in the shops.

That's why its called advertising.
If it was really good and did the job right then word of mouth would do the job and adverts wouldn't be needed.

Companies pay to have their stuff publicised on TV. If it were good the TV companies wouldn't need paying to have it.
The best adverts are free.

I had a very good one at my last employers, their uses are very limited, but in the right circumstances, they're brilliant.

It got a lot of use cleaning gooey citrus juice off machines, removing grease, generally doing a very good job, but the only use i ever found it good for at home was on the cooker, shifting the grease / fat that hadnt baked itself dry. No good on baked dry stuff.

I really can't think of anything else it was worth getting one for.

Polti is probably the biggest brand in terms of specialist domestic units. I can remember trialling one for the rep many years ago (it did mean that I got a Polti cycle jersey!)
I didn't rate it for the same reasons noted by the other posts, but I kinda think that using it for more commercial uses would be better.

I always find the home shopping ads hugely exaggerated in terms of what these cleaning devices can actually achieve (although I do like my Bissell carpet cleaner!)
