Despite thinking I had ridden every inch of lane in the Vale I found a bit today I cant remember riding before. Despite it being rerasonably good tarmac it was a fine balance between enough weight on rear wheel for it to grip and enough over front wheel to keep it on the ground.Only a few hundred meters thank God.

I had 32 c Vittoria Randonneur touring tyres on. Dont think I would have got enough traction on the damp road with racing slicks.

Its the lane that crosses the Kenston River between the Penn Onn to Moulton road and the Tredogan Road.

Bike Hike says less than 15% I say closer to 30%

I think I did that one when I did the first recce for the Swansea FNRttC! Terrible surface with grass down the middle? Not sure it's 30% but it felt like it. My first thought had been to take the ride down the St Lythan's Road from Culverhouse Cross so as to get off the A48 at the first opportunity. Some of the b***ard hills changed my mind, I discovered The Bonvilston/Llantrithyd Variation, and the rest, as they say, is history...

Surface was pretty good but may still be the same lane as they have done resurfacing since then.
