I would have guessed that a cyclist would have been classed as a foot passenger taking a bike.

That as it turns out is exactly what it is.

So there was no need for this post at all.

Not quite. You are not allowed to wheel a cycle onto the passenger decks. It's classed as a vehicle, you've to inform them you intend to take one onboard. And it legally has to go on the vehicle decks.

Nope, as above cyclists have to declare they are taking a bike on board which goes with vehicles. On stena line cyclists also pay more than foot passengers.
