The smell of a decomposing rat is unbearable. My parents had a dead rat in the cavity wall between them and next door. Very strong scented candles were needed for several weeks. They couldn't invite anyone into the house at all and could barely use the kitchen at all.

Get one of these: electromagnetic/ ultrasonic rat, mouse thingy from Amazon. They cost £13.99 . Just plug it in and your workshop will be rat and mice free. I have one in my cellar, it works View attachment 121358

I bought one to repel elephants. 100% success rate.

That's over at @User14044's place. His butler isn't as adept as Fenton at vermin control.

^^^^Well I seem to have won, rarely see mice around these parts now...Used to be regular at one time.It wasn't till I was leaving my old place that I actually saw a mouse after 17 years.I have ultrasonic and also put those blocks down plus sticky paper under the skirting...This place is like a catacombs heaven for mices.

Leave a recorder running, when you're not in the house, and see whose winning!

From what I have being told (I have no proof) they usually die in their burrows, I have used the poison method and neverfound a corpse (I may just be luck)

I've found poisoned rats in the garden. Neighbour put the poison down. So that's one statistic for the "where do poisoned rats die?" study - they die in the neighbour's garden.

There was a dead one underneath next doors decking, It was ok in the summertime, but as the autumn came on and it got a bit damp, back came the smell.
It took me two years and many complaints to get them to lift the decking and remove the offending bodies.
