Following my 'off' on black ice on January 13th today should, subject to x-rays, be the day my stookie finally comes off.

I'm in no doubt however that there will need to be more healing time and physio prior to getting back out on the road on my bike so, in anticipation, the turbo bike has been set up with tri-bars.

As usual he doctors are being vague in what they are telling me, typically giving worst case scenarios. Does anyone out there have real life experience in recovery from a similar injury which, in my case, was a complex distal radius (Colles) fracture that required manipulation under anaesthesia and insertion of K-wires for the first four weeks of healing.

Thankfully x-rays looked good today so cast is now off. I've been given a removable brace to wear to straighten up a wrist that's not moved for almost 7 weeks. Very tight so physio will be greatfully received.

On the plus side the doctor was encouraging in that he said I should be ok to ride the London to Paris ride I am doing in just over 15 weeks time.

Good luck with recovery
Not heard "stookie" for a long time.

I broke my wrist (I didn't break it on the bike) a few years ago. It wasn't complex, so not necessarily useful, but no one else has replied. I asked if I could still ride my bike when I got the "stookie" (new word! thanks!) and the doctor said "I wouldn't like to think what would happen if you came off" so the only reason I couldn't ride the day after I broke it was the risk of coming off. I did all my physio after the plaster came off, and I cycled to every physio session. I really didn't need physio, but they send everyone to the hand specialists who has a break anywhere near the wrist.

Good luck with your recovery, and your Paris ride.

Update before hitting "post": Saw this before your update. Way different to my injury. My wrist would have almost certainly healed perfectly without intervention, which is clearly not the case for you. Do you have a turbo, so you can build fitness without risking an off?

I have a Bkool Classic that will be getting heavily used over the next few weeks, or longer if required. Probably can't put too much weight on the arm/wrist at present so fitted out the turbo bike with tri-bars.

You'll notice steady recovery. Don't look at day to day or week to week, you have to look back to how you are now the cast is off. It's a slow process. I could hardly walk about 8 weeks ago - went swimming today.

Good news. Happy Cycling, even if it is indoors.

Oh the joy of being able to scratch an itch without using a knitting needle!
Surprisingly it's one thing I have never had to resort to which is a good job as there are no knitting needles in the house

I had a compound spiral fracture in both my lower arms at different times thankfully..
all when cast's were 12 weeks and bloody cumbersome things..
it took a few weeks on both occasions to get mobility and confidence back..i say confidence as the arms had lost all the muscle and body fat, just wasted away in 3 mths of immobility.
Similar with my leg fractures too ,it just takes attitude and a little time, physio helps a lot..evil people lol
hopefully in a week or 2 you will be feeling fine about everything.

Here's hoping. Was a little surprised at how little I was able to move my wrist on Tuesday evening compared to previous times in a cast.

Waiting on a physio appointment. Hopefully won't have to wait too long.
