The best method - add another link to your chain while you're at it, it was looking a bit tight.

Really, I mean it, just stop. It really has reached the level where it's spoiling the place. Every other thread people are at each others throats. In particular those of you who post in general cycling, chill, relax, pause. Think, 'am I actually going to change anything if I argue ceaselessly with someone else'. If you need to, post it as a debating topic in CAD, they like a robust discussion in there. Or just make your point and leave it at that.

It's like fight club on here sometimes. I mean we all like a juicy thread, we all like to get stuck in occasionally but recently.......wow!

Pause folks. Don't get drawn in, think of a good witty acerbic comeback instead and if you can't, well, say nowt. We seem to be suffering a sense of humour failure at the moment.

What do you think?

There has been a tendency for CC to become less of a 'Forum' - where questions/ reports/ comments are posted, allowing considered response - and more of a 'chatroom' where interaction is more immediate, shorter time scales. (shorter timescales can also be created by people making a post, going elsewhere on the forum, then coming back to pick up the initial thread; the clock time might show 12 minutes/2 hours later but the actuality is an immediate reply)

The danger in that is that one person's 'witty repartee'
biggrin.gif
is another's 'inflammatory comment'
angry.gif
; one person's 'leg-pull'
icon_wink.gif
is another's 'gross insult'

.

I come to CC to learn, to impart my knowledge

to other learners and to read about other people's cycling experiences and interests - bikes, racing, commuting, touring, know-how etc.

Maybe the difficulty is in the name CycleCHAT - when it started, there was not the plethora of 'chat'-rooms, -fora, Facebook, Twitter etc

, where communication is much more real-time.

Perhaps we should all be aware of the difference between 'reaction' and 'response'.
- one is spontaneous, usually without thought and can be difficult to control
- the other is measured, considered and done through choice. (eg I almost always Preview what I have written before I post)

Maybe this is why I don't frequent certain sections of CC ....
