Stop the Met Office putting a dampener on motivation..

I keep a close eye on the Met Office app for weather forecasts, most days.

However, I usually find that it is far more pessimistic than it needs to be.

Those days when I look at a very wet & windy forecast and wonder whether I should drive, more often than not end up being fine for cycling. LIke today... spent most of the week thinking I'd end up driving in today with very heavy rain forecast, yet I had a lovely dry ride in.

Having a waterproof jacket which can be worn rain or shine helps too.

I though I'd post this to share how I've been encouraged to say sod the forecast and get on the bike !

The Met office/BBC forecast is always overly pessimistic when it comes to rain. Just yesterday morning the live forecast predicted heavy rain in about two hours time, RainToday showed it was nonsense and in the end it was a little drizzle for 10 minutes or so.

That's more or less what I have been doing, but we haven't had anything like the showers predicted by the radar recently !

We perform scans on patients that can in total last several hours. We long ago found out that assuming patients would need additional images and then have them finish early was better for both patients and staff

Get up look to see if it will rain, then ride anyway. It's only water.

Hmm ... well I was drenched yesterday! The showers where they hit are pretty heavy. Managed to miss several this morning. Now the sun is shining but five minutes ago it was raining heavily and the clouds are black when you look that direction. Now I'm off out and I must remember not to cycle fast enough to catch up with it!!! (as if!)

Having a decent waterproof jacket has made a difference, it's also a case of knowing whether to bother taking waterproof trousers into work as well. Yesterday was pretty wet riding in, at times.

since you seem to like your waterproof jacket why not rely on that and give the forecasts a miss.

From Tuesday to Thursday the weekend forecast is always very optimistic, which has the effect of cheering you up and making you work harder.
The forecast for tomorrow is always pesimistic, so that when you throw open the curtains and see that it's actually not that bad you instantly cheer up and work harder.

This is clear evidence that the met office is run by the illuminati. To counteract these and other subterfuges they employ, line the inside of your helmet with tin foil. This has the added bonus of keeping the rain off.

Since I changed to working office hours I haven't got an option on work days, I have to take the bike whatever the weather (there's no parking at all and public transport doesn't get me there in time).

I haven't got a car, but can sometimes use the OH's car, tbh, having it there can make you lazy. Best thing I did getting rid of mine. Very rarely get a soaking, though I did a couple of weeks ago riding to a doctors appointment, then sat literally drippng in the waiting room, I was frozen!

What I really dislike is very strong wind. I did use OH's car to go out one night a couple of weeks ago when I should have ridden, but to be fair, I wasn't entirely sure it was safe to drive either. I was vindicated, cos I met another cyclist who'd got blown off his bike that same evening!

Me and son would've gone for a ride today, but the weather was horrible, so we've been to the cinema - which we would usually ride to, but we caught the bus!

Ah! but, with respect, I consider your suggestion flawed.
The problem with waterproof/windproof jackets is...they are not.
I bought a windproof jacket with great hopes, but wearing it has not made one bit of difference to the effort required when cycling against the wind, so I still have to consult the weather forecasts.
