On my commute to work in London this morning I was stopped by one of the above for cycling on the pavement I had just got on to the pavement and had travelled no more than a few metres when he spotted me before I spotted him

He told me he could issue a £60 fine for cycling on the pavement but he was not going to do it and let me go much to my relief

Can Police Community Support Officers fine you if they feel like it

Cycling on the pavement is top of the list.

Yes there it is top of the list which begs the question why did he not give me a fixed penalty notice ?

Could it have been because I was as nice as pie to him ?

I think there's been some new guidance lately that as long as people aren't riding like nutters on the pavement endangering pedestrians police are just to give 'advice' re using the road and not prosecute people for it

I guess his reply would have been that he was doing the job he is paid to do:

Police Community Support Officers are members of support staff employed, directed and managed by their Police Force. They will work to complement and support regular police officers, providing a visible and accessible uniformed presence to improve the quality of life in the community and offer greater public reassurance.

They are a unique role designed purely to tackle local anti-social behaviour and issues affecting the quality of life.

Cycling on the pavement is antisocial, and stopping it improves the quality of life in the community.

It is the job of police officers to do as you suggest.

I once had someone (assumed it was a PCSO) shout "Excuse me sir" as I filtered to the front at some lights and over the stop line by a few inches. The lights changed almost immediately, and he shouted again. I wasn't in a position where I could safely pull over (I was in the rhs of the lane to go straight on) so I just pretended I hadn't heard him and carried on. He didn't give chase. And (though I'm not advising this:whistle:) I don't see how they'd catch a cyclist anyway.

My brother in law tried that one when he got caught for speeding.

Constable looked at him and asked if he meat ones with illegal number plates on their car?

Then issued a defect rectification notice for the plates as well as the speeding fine!

If I were a copper I swear to god all I would do is issue fines for illegal numberplates.

I probably shouldn't be a copper.
Do you think this would be going too far?
