Seal any obvious vent holes in the soles with tape.

Mudguards.

Use good overshoes.

Put your tights/trousers/leg warmers over the top of the overshoes, not inside. If you don't, water will eventually soak its way down and fill the shoes from the inside DAHIKT.

Even if/when the water does get inside, your feet will stay warm with the overshoes keeping the wind out.

for those of us who dont want to join the p***ing contest on spd shoes try sandwich bags round feet. Just dont wear them when it gets to cold keeps the rain out, without breaking the bank to do it.

Winter boots as are waterproof and warm just make sure your leg wear of choice goes over the top as water will use soak into your socks and capillary action will eventually fill your boot. I have looked at creating some form of gaiter from rubber gloves but its ot got wet enough to develop any ideas yet and I am sure there is something off the shelf that will do the job anyway but I am always looking at rubber gauntlets etc when in the DIY shop, I am sure somewhere on the forum this has been discussed at length.

I'll check out the link when I get home (my work internet proxy is blocking it, for some stupid reason). Have you tried these, @S_t_e_v_e, and how did you find them?

I've not tried them, but I'm going to get some.

I have Shimano boots MW80's and overshoes, water always goes down my shins and in to my boots. They take days to dry out.

Cling film works a treat, over the boots and up my shins, then overshoes on top.

BBB Heavy Duty Overshoes are great for keeping water out, however they fall to bits when not on the bike. I've had to take the sewing kit to mine more than once in the last year.

.

Thanks Mike. Good tip. I'd so far only worn my overshoes in very cold weather, not very wet weather. I was disappointed the other day to feel my socks squelching after a wet ride with overshoes on, and I put it down to my winter tights wicking the moisture down inside my shoes. You have just confirmed that this is possible. I'll be sure to wear them outside the shoes next time. Donger.

If it's raining that much, I'll not be riding voluntarily. I've now got some waterproof over-trousers that will sort the problem another way

Sadly, last time I had to ride in torrential conditions, the tights I had on wouldn't go over the top of the overshoes. I knew what was coming and 30 mins later it felt like my feet were in a warm bath. Sadly I still had another 2 hours to ride to get to my bed for the night  Thank the Lord for drying rooms

In the absence of a water and cold resistant she I've taped up my r108s with insulting tape as a temporary measure.

Water is always going to get in so I'm looking at keep you warm even when wet socks.

But I'm not fussed about wet fet just cold feet!
