Ahh, but it's a well known fact that rainwater causes carbon fibre to dissolve :rain:

It's not the frame, but the new bike has higher-end components and these cost a small fortune to replace. If you're somewhat less than perfect (and oh boy I am sooo much less than perfect) at cleaning/drying and generally molycodling stuff through the winter the salt/grime soon clogs stuff up and causes problems.

I'd much rather be in a position where I can have a nice light shiny bike with decent components for the summer, and have an older, more "characterful" steed complete with mudguards, puncture protected tyres, and a cheaper groupset for the winter.
