So i'm out today for a spin when a cyclist flashes past me at some great speed. Im always up for a chase so I pick it up and try and catch his wheel. Before I know it im doing 28 mph and only just hanging on..and the rider in front is in jeans wearing a rucksack!

It soon became clear that this was some super duper electric bike but as long is I was in his slipsteam i could just about keep up.

He then slowed slightly and turned and said "ive got a full carbon Bianchi, but this is more fun" before speeding effortlessly back to 28 mph and left me for dead. I then caught him at some lights where he again told me about his 'full carbon' Bianchi and how he had been waiting for a 'proper' cyclist to scalp! When I pointed out that it doesn't really count, he replied "Well i'm as fit as fu@k anyway" and off he went!

Very strange

Someone who says something like this?
It's been a couple years since I've cycled. I used to cycle a lot, I was one of the best. However I went for a short ride on the weekend and was getting overtaken by 70 year olds doing their weekly pub ride.

I've got slightly less than one month before I cycle from Hertfordshire to Edinburgh. The route is not 100% exact yet but it's going to be roughly 440 miles.

In the past I would have done this in 3 days whilst spending the night times on pub crawls but I'm a lesser man now. I would imagine 5-6 is more realistic.

Interested to hear the best possible training I could do over the next month.

Thanks

Ah.....! This may be the thing that hurtles up and down Madingley hill in and out of Cambridge on every now and then. It's a shared use path and I've seen him doing speeds similar to what the OP States. What a naughty boy!

I get passed by a bloke quite regularly on my morning and evening commute on one that has been tampered with. And he tends to ride it as if it was a motorbike. As I'm on a cycle path at this point and he is overtaking really quite fast, I think he is likely to cause an accident one day.

The one on my trike is a 250w brushless 15 mile an hour job (it freewheels above that speed) and that's more than quick enough for an uprong, cornering is 'interesting' to say the least. Not had the trailer on the back (not able to modify the hitch yet) but will be pulling a quite hefty trailer that is rated to carry 50kg (and often does on Garden Centre/DIY shop runs) so we'll see.
