The Pet shops is weird though which one came first and then the sanity of the person who open the second one. My educated bet, one on the right first left second....
The pet shops puzzled me too. There's one about a mile away from here in West London, but I can't think of any others.

Actually, there used to be a tropical fish place run by a gay couple in Shepherds Bush. One of them used to tend the fish tanks in the basement wearing Joe Orton-style leather underwear. The place made a lasting impression.

I was born in 1974, just along the road in Dover.

I was born in 1951 in Sudbury in Suffolk into an old kent family, its history can be traced all the way back into the 16th century. Shortly after my Dad left the RAF he moved back to Folkestone bringing his new wife and child with him.

That post could well be wasted on a large portion of the population younger than us!

The two Co-op thing is not unique. For some reason, in Denmead (eight miles up the road from me) there are two right opposite each other. One does appear to be a post office though...
Same thing in my home village of Enderby, one of the Co-op stores was a Somerfield before they were bought out. They don't want to get rid of one shop in case the likes of Aldi take it on.

Actually, Enderby is one of the sort I mentioned. The ex-Somerfield is run by the co-op group based in Manchester, while Mill Lane is Central England Co-op of Lichfield. CE buy some branded products from the group (and thereby own a share of it as a customer) but they are different companies which used to use the same branding but the group has gone all cyan and grey lately while CE still uses green as far as I know. It's like you used to get some Premier or Londis stores close together but they just bought the same brand and weren't the same business.

Denmead's are both Southern co-op and the OP's are both group. Not sure what's going on there.

Isle of Thanet? You might be balls-deep in pet supplies, but just try and find a copy of the Guardian!
I see an enterprise.

How about we start a corner shop in Broadstairs.
We will sell cereal at £4.50 , double mocca flat whites at £5 and leave copies of the Guardian and the Socialist Worker lying about for free.

We will be rich by the summer from the DFL residents!
