Strava question

Thought I'd have a look again at strava as I love the look of it and it finally supports ant+ on iPhone.

Few questions for those that know if I may.

1. It doesn't seem to display current speed. SURELY I'm missing something?
2. You can't follow routes either?

Am I being dense or have they missed out 2 fundamental features?

The Strava app isn't designed for mounting on your bars and using as general purpose cycle computer or navigation aid.If you want the features you mention then buy the Cyclemeter app for £2.99 and couple it with the Wahoo ANT+ mount for iphone. You can simply email your Cyclemeter rides to Strava for analysis. Otherwise you're in Garmin 500/800 territory. Personally, I only use the Strava app for reviewing rides I've uploaded from my Garmin. Before I got the Garmin I used Cyclemeter without its ANT+ features.

I have cyclemeter and wahoo kit. But strava do say they're supposed to provide this, otherwise why would they build an interface?

It's a brilliant website, and maybe that's where their Spain emphasis lays, but they're missing out on a huge amount of users for the sake of a badly rolled out coding project.

Strava is all about competing on segments. In reality anything else now is an afterthought.
Nothing like trying to keep up with elite cat and international riders over segments and for that matter your mates.
Where I am the local riders using Strava include half the Sky GB development team, The Rapha Condor Sharp team, The Specialized ladies and many other pros as well as a lot of the top club riders, oh and Potsy .
You do get to see some interesting stats from the Pros who tend to use power meters which give real data rather than estimated power output you get on apps for phones. The Halfords Crit series was recorded by quite a few of them, which gives you a much better idea of how fit these guys really are.

I do really like the segment bit.. My point is that they seem to be missing a trick when all they need is about 20 lines of code. Oh well

I know what you mean. It certainly seems to be orientated towards segment hunting rather than anything else. Thing is that element is damn addictive. I reckon most of the users (I do) use it in conjunction with other systems. Someone mentioned they may do a more formal link up with Garmin although that may be idle gossip.
