Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
in theory the whole funding for this CG is done via their own self fundraising means, no government funding is being provided as that was the whole concept for why Glasgow took it on from Victoria, Australia, (who blew their budget and how we ended up in this situation), though there is an emergency budget fund of government money if it all goes t & a, but so comparing it to previous games budgets, when this is a cut down version anyway, is not useful.

though obviously there is government money funding the home nation athletes to attend, theres no doubt some money from government budgets Glasgow can use to promote tourism & health or education, so you cant really say its completely private investment funded only. But there are no blank cheques the tax payer is picking up for it.
Interesting. I'd missed all this. Victorian taxpayers would pay for Scotland’s $220m Commonwealth Games under new proposal | Victoria | The Guardian – https://www.theguardian.com/austral...ds-220m-commonwealth-games-under-new-proposal

It seems there is some government funding, but it's Australian government funding, about half the $380m compensation paid to the games organisers.

I guess that's why they're locking it up on TNT. It makes it easier to balance this game's books and the long-term harm is someone else's problem.

Classic ensh1tification...

TNT are selling to advertisers now, not subscribers. (Agree with mjr, that tomorrow - when no one subscribes - is someone else's problem...)

Not in the UK, but in Germany it seems like discovery+ is losing the annual payment option. Mine runs out in February and I only have the option of renewing to the monthly option with or without ads.

same for me
no way I am paying that much to watch a couple of races - and pay for access to a lot of stuff I will never watch
especially if they want me to pay money to 2 or 3 different organisations on top of the Virgin/Sky stuff!

and they wonder why people using devices and "apps" to get round it all "illegally"

I got an email from British cycling the other day ( I’ m a member for 3rd party insurance) which asked me if I would like to watch the National cyclocross championship. When I clicked on the link, they wanted £2:99 a month to watch this and their other videos.
I‘m also member of the British Mountaineering council and their videos are free. Plus I get 15% discount at Cotswold outdoor.
