Serious loss of motivation! Whether it's down to the chill factor or the fact that i havn't had any spare time of late! Last bike ride was 5 weeks ago, and no time now until the New year.
Another factor is i'm still massively undecided as to stick with my Mountain Bike and tackle all the Trails i have stumbled across or to go full Roadie. i like the idea of doing both but can only have one Bike.
I'm not asking for anything, i just fancied a moan as the wife doesn't listen!
Also, would i get away with wearing my Road Lycra (padded shorts & road style jacket) on Mountain Bike trails as i CBA buying more cycling clothing?!
Cheers from a disgruntled Gaz.

You're not alone mate. One of my riding buddies has garaged his bike due to the weather. I too have lost motivation, but I'm trying to hit my 4000 mile target, so I'm pressing on. But cycling isn't the pleasurable experience it was in the summer.

I kind of just want to get the target over with and have a fortnight off.

if your lacking in motivation Id say you would benefit from a change.. so go for the road bike. the new experiences will all be fresh and will keep you going. Just because its winter it doesnt mean all roadies stay in the shed. Fit some 28mm conti 4 seasons and then.....

Get of your bum and go ride.

The motivation is a difficult one and I've suffered the same occasionally, but it always seems to come back when I've made myself go out and do some sort of ride. Everyone is different though.

As for the bike - how about something cyclocross style? It'll do the trails and with a swap of tyres it's a roadie.

I use my hybrid now. The bigest issue is in my head ..... It feels so slow and i have to put more effort in. Once i got over the speed thing ..... I enjoyed my rides a lot more.
Havn't receied my Garmin back from warranty,so that's not helping .... I can't see my speed :-(

At least i'm not alone! A target is what i need..... i think! lol
I go out on my MTB in lycra, all i wear is a set of baggies over the top.
I hate cycling in baggie clothes. The flappin gets on my nerves! But gotta look the part and not a prat i suppose! ha!

A CX bike could be the answer. i do like the look of them! Just need a Fat man in a Red suit to bring me one! :snowball:

Update: Ice-free roads so decided to go for a ride. Found the chain on the road bike has pretty much competely seized. Decided to take the hybrid out. 12 miserable miles later I'm home. Sad face.

I ride the MTB in much the same if not the same kit I wear on the road, funny thing is I smirk at the people with baggy stuff on, what is that all about.

It is after all a bike ride not a fashion show.

I have a caadx and its a dream to ride. I have some road wheels for it too with some 28mm 4 seasons fitted and its lovely, just floats along. CX bikes are extremely cool.
Cool, Sounds great. Just what i need.

Come on Gaz, just get out there and ride. Take today for example, after the freezing and damp weather we have had recently it would have been perfect for a quick 10-15 mile blast.

Here's some points to consider (mostly my opinion!)
  • It doesn't matter about the bike. MTB, Hybrid or road bike, you've still got to have the legs to pedal them. Of the few 100 mile rides I have done this year the most enjoyable was the one I did to Southport on my MTB.
  • Wear what you like. If you are comfortable don't give a stuff about common opinion or what anyone else thinks. wear a Banana Man outfit if you want. I wear baggies on my road bike and lycra on my MTB and to hell with 'convention'.
  • Don't make going out for a ride such a big event. This just puts you under more pressure and makes it more formidable. Just jump on the bike whenevern you can and take it from there. Ride to the corner shop when you need milk, ride to the pub when you go to see your mates, ride to work if it is a nice day. Riding the bike is no biggy!

I understand what you are saying. but with very limited time to ride at present, it does need planning. Bring on the lighter evenings.

Hope you wasn't too damaged and the bike is OK. Won't be long until Spring! ha
