well i think iv heard it all now i ordered a new camping stove with 8 bottles of gas (it was a good deal ). then working days later i get a message from the company i ordered from saying they have had to cancel my order and have refunded me in full. the reason they give for canceling my order is that there courier refuses to transport such items, im guessing its the gas canisters but the company haven't replied to my message asking for a proper reason.
in my reply to the company which is a largish company/shop on ebay with the trusted ebay seller icon thinggy, i did point out that they are a camping/outdoor supplies that sell lots and lots of different camping items including stoves, heaters, and of course gas cylinders in all different sizes and shapes. and i also pointed out that they dont have a pay and collect bit like some places do now, so all there stuff is sent via post/courier, and i may have made a few remarks about how stupid it is to sell stuff that you haven't even checked if you can send it. i also may have made a few comments about the lack of brain power it would take to sell things that you cant send, and that its not exactly brain surgery. and why the hell has it taken 2 full working days for you to bother telling me and why the hell haven't they tried a different courier.

it just dont make sense to me how they have done that and also how many other people have they done it to ?
the worst thing is because they opened a case to cancel the transaction its removed the leave feedback button so i cant even leave them bad feed back.

Their courier company have probably just tightened up their T&Cs or have just discovered what they were couriering as it was boxed up before now.

It must be mildly annoying but surely easily rectified with trying another shop as you've not lost any money. I'm sure there must be bigger things to worry about in life....like where the Shift Key is:whistle:

They are not stupid. It was a simple oversight. They have given you a proper reason. The gas canisters are not carried by quite a few couriers and Royal Mail. Postal regulations have tightened over the past few years. Here's a list of Royal Mail's prohibited items - http://www.postoffice.co.uk/prohibited-goods-uk for future guidance.

The web site/web shop is as likely as not constructed by a third party using the inventory and stock descriptions supplied by the company. The web site/shop constructor and the person supplying the data for the e-commerce site are both likely to be ignorant of postal regulations. Companies despatching a lot of goods tend to use a single courier as it probable offers a discount. Using another courier for one off items is probably a bit of a hassle - more paperwork etc.

Sending abusive messages to the company doesn't help your cause and shows you in a poor light. A polite message expressing your disappointment and a suggestion of how they might consider changing their listings might have earned you a discount on future purchases.

As for opening a case, that might be the only method open to them within the Ebay transaction process - it's not a slight.

Call that stupid?

Twice I've ordered '650mAh' replacement batteries, which when they arrived turned out to be 450. So when I saw a listing from a new supplier, I sent them an email: "Are these definitely 650s, because twice I've ordered '650mAh' replacement batteries, which when they arrived turned out to be 450s'. I get a response: Yes, we've checked and these are 650s. So I order. Guess what turns up?...

I've had it done to me. They rip people off in the hopes that we don't bother returning them as returning them would cost around the same amount as the batteries.

Oh absolutely. All three suppliers are still listing 650 batteries, knowing full well they're not, but counting on 9/10 buyers either not noticing (the numbers are in *very* small print) or not bothering to pursue it.

You must have agreed to cancel the transaction for this to happen.

If you hadn't done you would have still had the negative feedback option available for you to use if you felt so strongly.

They only opened a case in the hope you would agree to cancel, and in doing so they will now have been refunded their ebay fvf fees.

Other than that I do have to say that I agree with vernons response above.

I still have the feedback option for 3 cancelled transactions. Loads of couriers don't carry high inflamables as it increases their insurance. Pretty much common sense

Hi Stu!
Don't be so hard on the seller.
Couriers and Royal mail sometimes change items not allowed/methods of transport without informing the sender.
A while ago I'd ordered some stuff from Ruthland Cycling, including a few bottles of GT85 on offer.
The whole order never got to me. It turns up that Royal Mail changed shipping to Scotland from via rail to via plane, without telling the sender, so my order got confiscated because of the GT85.
The seller lost his goods, I got a prompt refund, then I made another, airplane safe order, giving them a good feedback.
