I was sorting some Super8 cine films last night, ranging from 1968 to 1982. My 23 year old grandson came up to me and said: "What are these?" as he was staring at the spools of film. Growing up in a world of digital media, cd's and dvd's, he had no idea of what we used to have in my days. I felt really old when I explained fo him what cjne films and projectors were.

Having sat with my then 7 years old and 5 years old sons showing them an album from my childhood which they really liked, the elder boy asked:-

What was it like before they invented colour Dad?

Wonder what he would make of the 8 track cassette player I had in my first little Mini

I was around at a friends a few years ago when her daughter came downstairs and looked, with wonder, as we were going through a load of LPs. She didn't know what they were and asked if that's how we listened to music in the olden days. Charming child. I felt pretty ancient that evening. My Uncle was one for his Cine 8 stuff. He still has boxes and boxes of it. Heaven knows what his Great Grandchildren (7 & 9) must think of it.

That's a co-incidence. Last night I was sorting out some old stuff in the junk cupboard and found an old super 8 cine film. A film of the kids when they were young in the early 80s. Posted it off this morning to have it transferred on to DVD.

I have mentioned this before, but I think it bears repeating.....

Last year my mum died, and we were clearing out her house. We asked my daughter (aged 29) if she would like any of her Nan's jewellery. Nicola picked out a wristwatch.

She looked at it, and said "Oh,it's not going. I will need to get a new battery for it".

I asked to have a look at it. And wound it up. Handed it back, working correctly. Nicola looked at me as though I had performed some kind of black magic trick....

Obviously, she has never encountered a clockwork watch!

I have a shop, and a year or so ago we had some novelty cassette-tape items in. We had customers who were at university that didn't know what they were. We no longer sell them.

I worked in a photographic shop for a lot of years, when I started we sold Standard and Super 8, 16mm. Home video cameras where just coming in and had a camera with a tube that didn't like point highlights, a separate recording VHS or Beta machine to be worn on your shoulder, a battery life of about 20 minutes.. and cost upwards of £2000. We had shelves and shelves of 35mm film, Colour, B&W, Slide with a few 110, 126 and latterly Disc stuff and a 2x6ft run of shelving just for printing paper...we used to stock up the shelves to groaning full levels on a Saturday morning because that was always going to be your busiest day... and now there's smartphones and wireless uploads...

In the end the boss's son, who as a baby was brought in to be introduced to the staff as 'the newest addition to the family' was the man who made me redundant, just like all the tech matured, came and went, so did I!

Thanks for the heads up @Maverick Goose , although it should be noted that although I advised photographers of many standards and talents over the many years, and have great, but ultimately, out-of-date knowledge in my head, it should not be confused too much with the actual practise of the hobby myself! Will look though.

I think @Archie_tect is trying to turn this into a Monty Python sketch....
