Hi as a reasonably experienced road cyclist living in Leeds I want to take my 23year old son away cycling for a two night trip perhaps 40 miles a day nothing to hilly of reasonable interest ,taking in a couple of nights somewhere decent, either a circular trip or out and train back . It's a father and son time not to put him off but to encourage. .

Struggling for ideas intend to go next week any help please

Hello Chris - does it need to be local to the Leeds area or are you prepared to travel further afield, perhaps by car or train and cycle around a different area?

Cheers,
Shaun

Just a hint for replying Chris - hit the reply button on the right side of someone's post and it quotes them in your reply - just helps to tie things together. (Note: I've edited-in the reply to your post above). :okay:

Good luck with the ride - I'm sure you'll have a great time. :okay:

Cheers,
Shaun

Around Whitby is lovely,NY moors, but very hilly. All up and down with very little flat bits. The dales is better terrain, as whilst the hills are bigger, you can do a lot up and down the valley floors which are much flatter with the occasional climb over the tops. Skipton is a good base. There is. a hotel Rendezvous there that are good forcyclists. Locked bike storage and route advice etc.

Day 1 - Train to Settle, then cycle up past the Ribblehead viaduct to Kirkby Stephen, then head east to Reeth (which has a choice of pubs)

Day 2 - Reeth to Patley Bridge and then down to Knaresborough where you can pick up a train back to Leeds

Lots of variations you can do on the above.
