I did it once, as a dare, with a colleague many years ago in the Lancaster Gate Hotel in London. If I remember correctly it was a local government equal opportunities conference.
Well it was about equal opportunities so I guess you were entitled to yours.

I still have a wardrobe full of nice suits (Jaeger & some Italian ones) and shirts and a whole drawer if very nice ties. Dont have much of a use for them these days having made the unusual transition from the world of accountancy/audit to manual labour, but still can't quite bring myself to chuck them out, despite only wearing one of them once in last 6yrs for a funeral.

Was always of the attitude that if i was going to have to wear a suit I was going to look sharp as f... It also just about helped to make up for the undercut, pony tail and purple hair (not really surprising didn't fit into one of big 4 accountancy firms ...)

E2a: weirldy enough wearing a suit is one of few things j miss from old job, that and the fancy meals & hotels on expenses ...

I used to work for Jaeger, just as a school boy but the quality always shone through to me even then.

Ah nick nick, i too have a vast store of ties. Blokes are somewhat limited in work atire so the tie was the only chance of a bit of novelty. I consigned my ties to history by advising PR clients to go tieless. And then blair and his ilk adopted it and that was the end of the tie. Suppose it was at least a better "look" then the brief 80s fashion for black and white pics of chief execs that made them look as if they were strung out on heroin.

Suits without ties doesn’t do it for me. Even a loose tie is better than none imo.
