I am off down south next month and want to ride ( off road ) either box hill or peaslake ,I can’t for the life of me find a hire shop in the area that hires MTB . Can anybody on here please help .

The little bike shop in Peaslake does Santa Cruz demo bikes.

Not having used any of the hireshops I can't make a recommendation.
However, Peaslake is a good base for mountain biking: Hurt Wood, Winterfold Wood, Leith Hill, etc.
