Well the Vietnamese version at least, nuoc mam. I don't suppose it's that different than garum would have been.

Which reminds me, we went to an ice cream demonstration a couple of weeks ago and the starter was herring ice cream by Roberto Gelato. There was a film of him making it but I can't find it on the net. It tasted a bit fishy and there was a bone in mine.
