Myself and Mrs aud share the bills, then what she has left over is hers, what i have is mine.
A marriage is a partnership, a bit of give and take is needed on both sides.
If genders were reversed in the op's swmbo example I'm sure people would be up in arms about how the husband is domineering, chauvinistic, etc... And whilst each individual should live how they want to, the whole swmbo, asking before spending my own money thing strikes me as misandric cr@p.
I see this a lot on here. SWMBO. She who must be obeyed.
I read comments about having got permission to go out, to buy a bike, to whatever whatever...
Are guys really so under the thumb??
Come on chaps...don't let them get away with it...we have a right to be men....![]()

This is the way to go.
Funny enough I was thinking about this the other day. If me and mrs p divorced she would get half of everything (house, furniture etc...) so why shouldn't a couple split everything 50/50 when paying for it and then enjoy their own respective left over salary how they wish.

Lol, I hope so!Hilarious. You do know "SWMBO" is not real, right? It's not about actual women. It's a mildly misogynistic caricature painted by men to rationalize their own choices.
Ah well that is a different situation isn't it.So what happens when the wife stops working to look after the kids (Mrs Nickyboy did this) or only returns to work part-time (Mrs Nickyboy is doing this)? Wife earns nothing or not much. Our different viewpoint seems to be that I don't regard the money I earn as "my own money", rather it is the family's money.
I pronounce it "swimbo" much quicker that S.W.M.B.O.
Ha ha...ok...
Of course a relationship with joint finances etc is a two way thing...sheesh...get with the humour peeps...I did that for 31 years...I know the drill..
I just wonder why the 'obeying' comes into it....never did that.
As in
A SWMBO way a SWMBO way
A SWMBO way a SWMBO way
In the jungle the mighty jungle
The lion sleeps tonight?
