Another good word. I learned of it from the Charlie Kaufman film. A film that is marmite I'm sure though I personally loved its Russian Doll, labyrinthial, paradox, mind warping daftness; Kaufman at his most infuriating and enigmatic. Pretentious nonsence some would say, and I get why.

In the film, Synecdoche is a fictional place in New York state - though it sounds like it could be a real place given the names there! What I did not know was that it is an actual word, a kind of figure of speech /metaphor. Not only did I not know the word, I didn't even know of the figure of speech (and it's various members) it described. A true gem of a find for me!

Thanks for that, it’s a new one to me too (although I’ve used its function without knowing the name for it.)

My etymological dictionary says it’s late 15C, from Latin which in turn took it from Greek.

That's magnificent. Thank you. Going to search out more.

Just about all their music is available on Youtube and (if you want to buy any of it) on Bandcamp. They're prolific, to put it mildly: 1.5 days worth of music over about 21 years. Personally, I find them to be the most consistent band I've ever heard: I only dislike less than 10 of the tracks in their entire discography. But anyway, listen to some of their tracks, and make up your own mind.

I'm listening to a lot of 'that kinda stuff' of late. Ambient, sound track, whatever. No vocals, mainline to the soul. Composers like Ludovico Einaudi, Max Richter, Johan Johannson, Harold Budd, etc etc etc also Eluviam, Dirty 3, even the likes of Perfume Genuis. List goes on. Dunno where is started really; the love of a good soundtrack maybe - Morricone etc. Jeez, even Barry Adamson and Mogwai!

Edit : I reckon even triphop (particularly Bristol) played a part in my journey. The likes of Massive (Attack), Portishead, Tricky. All gave an appreciation of sound, moved me away from what I was used to. Cripes, even Radiohead's later endeavours, and Thom York's work, Greenwood too. Explorers that I willingly followed.

I'm starting with Anton Belov. I'll have a listen to Hammock later - that's a huge catalogue to explore!
