The pedals I got with my bike weren't the originals and weren't very good.

The interval between re-packing the bearings and them going click is down to about 200 miles and they have permanent play. Time for replacement methinks.

Normally I'd just buy MKS touring pedals and put them on, but I spotted these. I can't find any reviews or comment on them and wondered if anyone on here has tried them. They look like an improvement on the standard pedal plus toe clip.

No, I'm not going clipless, tried it and didn't like it at all, so don't go there!

Hi there, yes, I use these pedals as I`m not a fan of clipless either and can pretty much vouch for them as being a good alternative. The really good thing is they are extremely lightweight. The only bad thing is the straps ... personally, I changed `em straightaway to an old pair of good stiff leather ones I still had on my old pedals. I hate these floppy new ones as they don`t retain their shape very well, strong though they may be.....

Thanks

I bought some real straps 18 months ago and they're still good - Brooks ones.

Those pedals don't look as wide in the photo as the MKS ones, is that a problem at all?

width is fine with me, no problems there, pic prob. looks a bit weird cos the platforms from front to rear are so long looking. For the price I could`nt really fault them apart from the straps. I`m a bit of a nutcase about not going clipless I really really don`t want my feet held in one position because of circulation problems and want a little bit of "play" to move in.....

Thanks for the comments. Think I'll get some, they look a good piece of design.

I tried clipless (SPD), no real problem but I hated the feeling of being attached to the bike and went back to toeclips. I'm comfortable with them and also find I can put much more upwards force on when I need to with clips, but that's probably something that comes with more practice on the clipless ones.

I have plastic strapless clips on the Ridgeback I ride around town. Fine for keeping feet in place and I can get them on and off fast in town, but no use at all for applying upward force, which is one of the functions of proper toe clips, or for giving precise lateral control of foot position.
