Glad your ok and the driver sounds like a stand up guy who made a mistake.

I do not mean to sound cynical -but I am...... Sounding like being a stand up guy and being a stand up guy can be two completely different things. It is why you should cover yourself legally.

ANd just my opinion but if you have been in that sort of accident where the bike has taken that much impact, I would want a replacement bike. You just do not know what might be lurking under that paint work now.

No cab, wish I could get a new bike but its only 4 weeks old anyway!!!

Just checked on Wiggle, the wheels are £575 for the pair not £500... Thats Wiggle as well, not sure what price the LBS will charge, this is going to the insurance I think.

Should I warn the driver? He has already spoken to his insurance and said we agreed to settle between ourselves

He can change is mind. I had someone hit my car in a car park about 2 years ago. Didn't think it would be an expensive job and neither did they so we agreed that if we could settle it without the insurance involvement we would. Got a couple of quotes and it was much more than either of us realised. We had to take it through insurance after all.

Personally if it was my 4 week old bike that had gone for a riderless trip across the tarmac I'd be after a new replacement.

How could I even if I wanted too? The insurance quote is been done by the LBS, they are not going to write off the bike and I can't claim comp for myself since I wasnt hurt badly. If he passes me through the insurance I shall take another look at it all, just thought it would be a re-true and thats it.

Too be honest I am starting to worry about it, going to speak to the LBS and see what they say.

edit: LBS are confident the frame is ok, the alignment is bang on. Just looking for a single wheel, doubt they will get a single.

If it goes through insurance the chances are they'll want more than one quote anyway. If it's looking like going that way then I'd let the LBS know anyway. Also, if and when you get the bike back give it a good once over yourself. It's alright saying the frame is structurally OK but what about the paint job. You've just paid money for a new bike. It the paint job is damaged them you'll never think of it as new again.

Look at it this way - if someone scratched your 4 week old car you'd at least want it resprayed so it looked like new again. Why should your bike be any different?

There are no scratches on it, the tape and saddle are ok and neither touched. I think my Stealth like cat skills stopped most of the damage. Hopefully fingers crossed its one wheel which they can get with bus, taxi and pedal costs he will cough up rather than less about with the insurance.

First, it's not that I'm advocating you use this as a reason to profit from this and upgrade your bike. But:

If your LBS is saying your frame is fine, I'd try at least another bike shop, and explain your misgivings and describe the accident. Additionally as SquareDaff said, it is had scratches on it, the paintwork should be refinished or touched up to a reasonable state. I know it's easy to say this, but I'd ask how much the frame in its condition would sell for in the shop, and when given a response follow up with how much it would sell for if the shop had to disclose it had been shunted 20ft with a rider on it? Or can the bike shop guarantee and be willing to sign a document stating it's 100% free from issues from the accident? Or what if your frame fails and its under manufacturer warrantee and you disclose or the manufacturer finds out it's been in this accident -do you think the manufacturer would honour it?

Again, I'm not trying to say go for a profit, but to me under those circumstances I'd want a new bike. I wouldn't want it to fail on me in the future with disastrous consequences let alone not have the confidence in it to ride it.

Having said all that, if you're happy with it and have full confidence, go for it -it's what you're comfortable with. (of course, this is a forum and I'm just giving my opinion, which is what it is: an opinion, certainly not fact .

BTW, I'm impressed in the LBS in that you'd think this is a prime opportunity for them to write off the bike with the hope you'll purchase another from them -that can give you some confidence they think its fine.

What it comes down to is it's your choice in how you wish to approach this. Glad you are OK, BTW, that sounded nasty. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Depends on the LBS, I think. My LBS don't sell new bikes and only stock a small number of second-hand ones, most of which they've restored themselves. They're very much set up as a repair and servicing business, something they do very, very well.

No necessarily. It all depends on how big the excess is on the driver's insurance policy and the effect on his no claims bonus and future premiums. Letting his insurance company know that there has been an incident might raise his premium on renewal anyway as some companies use such notifications as an indicator of elevated risk in the future.

I was at the top of Stonegate Road at the top of the hill, the car pulled out of Stonegate Lane Here The car pulled out of the left road, I moved into a strong secondary with the car moving to the junction, good job as I would have been over the bonnet.

Dropped bike off at Trax and driver called offering to pay for repair and costs.

I live off Stonegate Road and treat it with caution as it's become a racetrack frequented by drivers with poor observation skills and road sense. I've been overtaken by cars going on the wrong side of the road and the passenger refuge islands, cars pulling out of the QLM/Aldi car park without checking and cars/taxis double parking outside of the working mens' club. I've witnessed several accidents and near misses by the parade of shops opposite Carr Manor and the traffic calming measures that have been installed have done little to calm the traffic. Stonegate Road used to be a quiet road but new housing, the Aldi/QLM shopping centre and Waitrose have all contributed to an increase in traffic. I used to hurtle down Stonegate Road without needing to worry about the traffic but have had to adopt a more sober attitude with the increase in hazards.
