Er,i'm only joking about the 4 quid fee. I think i can afford it.;) I am thinking though if it'd be worth spending 60 quid on one of these?:scratch:https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FIOJ...ascsubtag=d2a4e2dafdde-484e-afbf-6d28cf7a55f8

I've just seen this. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-43049430 That could be me in 3 or 4 years. I can see it now. Black belt in tai chi fights off drug taking crazed pensioners in sheltered accommodation siege!:ninja: :boxing: :B)

The BBC article is about a guy versed in Krag Maga fighting off intruders. There is a massive difference between Krav Maga and Tai Chi. Krav Maga is real world self defence, whilst Tai Chi is great for body and mind, but I would not rely on it for self defence.

In fact I would never rely on a martial art/self defence unless one has sparred full contact. Its a hell of a shock to the system when a fifteen stone bloke punches you full force in the face or ribs.

Have a go at the Tai Chi, I think it will be great for you.

One of my friends swears by Tai Chi, He got into it after a nasty motorbike, he spent a lot of time in hospital and suffered from mild PTSD . A therapist recommended he gave it a try and 30 odd later he's still doing it everyday.

Don't think that just because someone has some weight to them they can punch extremely hard. Punching is more technique than just stretching out a heavy arm. I watched a Jiu Jitsu sensei(tutor) punch through a wooden door once. He was only about 11 stone in weight. He said that punching starts at the shoulder...or summat like that.

You are correct, technique is more important than weight, saying that being hit by an 11stone guy and a fifteen stone guy who can both throw a punch is quite a difference if you are on the receiving end of it, that's why there is weight classes. The point I was trying to make is to be clear what you want from the practise. In my younger days I sparred against black belts in Kyokushinkai Karate in the full contact sparring class who thought they was proficient in the art, only to be found out once they had an opponent who doesn't hold back and even then its not the same as a drunken idiot in the pub who turns on you and wants to bite your ear off.

Tai Chi is a good match with Krav Maga which is effective but somewhat crude as required by a system that gets you fighting capable ASAP. Tai Chi will add power to all of your moves. People come to Krav Maga with all kinds of skills and are encouraged to use what they have as a foundation.
