When people get all excited about someone throwing an egg into a bit of flour, then I despair for the current (none intended) state of the world. One forum I go on, where I have cause to respect the majority of the contributors, now has no fewer than 18 pages, each over 25 postings long, where grown men (nearly all) are giving serious discussion to a programme about cooking stuff last night that apparently took the nation by storm!

But the contributors on THIS forum are clearly made of stronger stuff as I don't see any threads regarding last night's debacle of a programme about blending carbohydrates, protein and fats in an 'entertaining' way. And if one does exist on here, it hasn't found much interest as it has done the decent thing and faded rightfully away down amongst the forgotten threads.

Well done to all! You've gone a notch higher in my estimation for this!

I'm afraid i shall have to cast myself out from your considerations and plaudits.(never like clubs anyhow)

Whilst I have only caught a couple of this years episodes (I was away a fair bit and then saw the result on the news so figure I may just give it a miss) I do actually like it, It feels a little like the antidote to a lot of materialist celebrity rejoicing "reality" crap that is about as reality as time travel. It also offers an escape from some of the more serious and worrying aspects of the media.

And of course, reminds me of my childhood, watching regular evening programmes like telly addicts or last of the summer wine with the whole family (how times change!!).

The bake off is one of the few times that mobile devices don't even need to be banned in my house, they are willingly left on the side in favour of Mary and Paul.

Long Live The Bake off!!!

Wot Jonny said.

Real people showing genuine skill and artistic flair. They spend their weekends in the tent and their entire week practicing. There is no manufactured jeopardy, Simpleton voice overs and slow mo replays to pad it out. Well made, well paced and intelligent. Proper telly.... If you want to know how not to do it, the Apprentice starts soon.
