For me, all the showmanship and spectacle is there to hide the fact that the music is'nt really all that good.

I would much rather let the music speak for itself.

On the flip side of that i do think that they have brought out some very well crafted pop songs .....its just that i hate well crafted pop songs.

My wife went to the sunderland gig and said the show was amazing but the singing left a bit to be desired.

Well you need something to distract the audience from the shoot on stage.

in terms of entertainment value, they are probably head and shoulders above many 'cool' acts - even if you don't appreciate their style of music.

Exactly. I'm not into their music, I could've gone to this concert but I didn't, but I recognise that they are very good at what they do. They pen great pop tunes and give their fans value for money, unlike some of the protencious twats who behave like they're doing you a favour by turning up. This show must've cost a fortune to put on yet the tickets cost no more than usual stadium concert tickets and a lot less than some charge.

Whilst my wife was going on and on about the huge elephant, tightrope walker and flames so big you could feel the heat two-hundred feet away I asked her "And what was the music like?" She said the show was so epic the music was almost incidental.

Be a music snob if you like, it's your life. Take That know how to entertain, clearly value their fans and are happy to take the mick out of themselves. Personally I would quite like to see more so-called stars think like them.

I really like Take That. Well, when I say "like" what I mean is they're alright. Well, I say "alright" but what I really mean is that in order to avoid ever having to even accidentally hear any of the turgid pseudo-pop pap they inflict on a bewildered world, I would rather have molten steel from a Sheffield foundry poured directly into my ears to sear out the last vestiges of hearing and also block up the ear-holes thereby shutting out all sounds for ever. It's a sacrifice, but worth it, I think.

That made me do the proverbial LOL ;) :becool:

I'd never buy one of their records, but I think there is a place in the world for mindless entertainment. I saw S Club 7 years ago and it was much the same - disposable pop music but really good fun.

I better stop now before I confess something even more embarrassing! ;)

It's like food. We don't all like the same things but it's idiotic to say that every kind of food that you personally don't like is no good. Take That may be the musical equivalent of a burger but there is a place in the world for a good burger. At the right time and in the right place it's perfectly good food.

Going from one extreme to the other, I'm taking middle son to see AC/DC next week! So, are they better than Take That or do they just make a screechy racket? ;0)

You're right. Shame they're the equivalent of Iceland own brand frozen burgers with stale processed baps.

You're missing the point Mr Crock. Tom Waits may be a perfectly good songwriter but are you really suggesting that everyone should only ever be in the mood for listening to him? Of course not. Music is as diverse as people themselves and their moods. Almost all music has some value to someone. Gary Barlow might not write the same kind of songs as Tom Waits but songs like 'Shine' and 'Million Love Songs' are very good songs none the less.

It just ignorance to suggest that someone like Gary Barlow is not a highly intelligent and talented individual. You might not like what he does, I don't listen to Take That either, but it's just blind prejudice not to recognise the ability in what he does.
