Don't you lot have door to door collections up your way?

There are in my area. Run by the council, sometimes at cost to the person who wants their waste removing.
Problem for me is, I'm not allowed to use the service as the council class it as recycling!

From the Western Riverside Waste Authority (south/south-west London):
If you intend to transport household waste from your own residence in anything other than a Car, bicycle or on foot
Since a good number of the local residents don't own a car they'd be crazy to forbid bikes and pedestrians.

The Smuggler's Way site (fantastic name!) has a separate bike/pedestrian entrance, which skips [ba-dum tssh!] out the queue of waiting cars.

I've only gone a couple of times though, to dispose of broken electronics, old VHS tapes and some old clothes.

I've been banned from recycling by my local council because I used to go down on a Brox.
Reason given include the facts that pedal cycles have no body work, unlike a car. This in case a ten ton skip should happen to fall of the back of a lorry, I'd be flattenned because it, the cycle, "gives no protection whilst walking within the site".
Thats whilst I'm walking in the site not the Brox!

Do you still have the Brox?

I used this rig to go to the local skip in south manchester several times last year. I think the staff rather enjoyed the novelty of it.

Here's a shot of our Brox

Needs some TLC. Hopefully I will get onto it this summer.

Is there just the one strap holding the wheelie bin down Ed or is it bolted as well?
It looks a good set up.

I've not seen a Brox before and will go and google a few more.

I remember riding into Waldo Road refuse site last year to dump a bag of batteries. They were quite taken aback, but very happy to let me in.

So far not had any response to my query....

I think it has been recycled

Why not just go in and speak to them (at the recycling centre itself, that is). After all they are usually human beings and not bods behind desks.

I've just come back from the tip having dumped 2 panniers and a rucksack of sawn metal pipes and bits from an old bed. At least exercise helped work off last nights curry:smile:

Still got it. Even managed to get two wheelie bins on the back & take them to the tip, when the local contractor missed/ignored them.

Camera on the back has since been removed & rplaced by a tubular steel "flatbed".

I've taken loads of stuff to the local recycling centre on my bike with trailer. I just ride in like i've a god-given right to do so, park, unload it all and leave. I'd be wary of asking in case someone said no.

So where was the epidemic of pedestrians and cyclists being run over in council tips that's prompted this sudden policy on the part of so many councils to try to force us to drive in?

Only able to go by what I was told. But its not people being run over thats the problem. Its stuff falling of the back of a wagon that prevents me using the sites.

Hurrah...

After a long wait I have a reply

Hello,

Thank you for your email.

I apologise for the delay in providing a response. Your enquiry was
forwarded to the Waste Management section of Sheffield City Council for
further information.

We have clarified that the permit scheme does not extend to bicycles, so
you will be able to access the sites with a trailer attached to your
bike.

Thank you for contacting Veolia Environmental Services Sheffield, if you
require any further information please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Regards,

Paul Meaney
