Tales from today's commute....

Lovely ride in this morning. Little wind, temperature 14-16C, hardly any traffic due to half term.

15.3 miles at an average of 15.9mph - according to Wahoo, Strava says 15.7. Either way, the fastets I've done that route.

On the lovely Van Nick today and why not? It's a lovely, dry, warm morning with the weather here in the SE only getting better as the day progresses.
Like @markharry66 says, it's WFH or doss day. Station and train near empty.
Cycling the 27 miles home later this afternoon and so looking forward to it.

Little warmer than what I thought it'd be this morning so light jacket got ditched a few miles in. The wind however couldn't make its mind up where to blow but think it was behind me most of the time. I stopped 10 miles in at a little bakery to collect a buttered cherry scone before rolling the last 2 miles through the city to work. I've a 2 mile ride out to a work site to do before riding back home at lunchtime. Hopefully I'll get back in time to pick up the lil one from primary on the tandem.

It's not the greatest or picturesque of rides home. 14 miles of London traffic until you get to Bluewater then its a separated cycle lane for 10 miles until you get to the outskirts of Rochester. But on my Van Nick it was a jolly old hoot, especially in the very warm weather.

It was greying as I was heading to the train and it was forecast to be a headwind and completely grey by the I got to Huntingdon. Ive also a few rides planned over the weekend. So I took the short route to the station and the train all the way to Pottyboro for a tailwind. The wind forecast was completely wrong though and it was a headwind again, so I should have cycled further to the station and got off the train earlier after all 🤦‍♂️ Sick of headwinds after crawling through town (pedestrian and traffic) I smashed it into the headwind and went about 3 miles past my house to finish with a tailwind. Typically now I'm home the sun's come back out.

Noticed this week that the council have actually cut back the overgrown bushes that have pretty much blocked the cycle path that i raised to them , this is the 1st time they have actually done something when i have reported it without me resorting to getting the local mp involved .Maybe they recognise my name by now

Saw someone riding an e scooter, now't unusual in that you'll all say.
However, said rider was wearing full motorcycle leathers and a full face m/c bash hat - !
I know e scooter can be a bit dodgey, but isn't that taking caution a bit too far - ?

from the news article i saw of how unstable the things are on uneven ground i would say not

Done that myself there and back, not the nicest but at least it gets you out on your bike.

Monday lovely start to the day tailwind again breeze more than anything. Still quiet busier nut still not back to normal. Lovely trip in until got the round about at abbey wood idiot decided I didnt exist even though I was waiting to turn right decided to drive straight through me like I wasnt there. Looing forward to new video cam turning up as going to start reporting some the bad driving to police as sick of it,.

Only got one day cycle commute this week. This week two days leave and one day where we are at an 'away day' and it's quicker if I catch the train as it's 30 minute walk from the office, as there isn't any cycle parking nearby.

I was very lucky to get away with this today, I can count my lucky stars.

I got doored this morning - when I saw the car door opening on the driver's side it was like some weird slow-motion and I knew what was going to happen next, but could do nothing about it. Fortunately, only the edge of the door got me and now I have a grazed forearm & I managed to stay upright (if he opened the door any quicker, I'd probably be in A&E).

I slowed down and stopped, looked back at the driver who asked if I was OK. I wasn't angry, I didn't see any point being angry. I said "Be more careful next time when you get out of your car. Yes, I'm OK".

I left it at that, he seemed decent enough, just a dopey driver on a Monday morning.

18 mile commute this morning to First Aid Refresher Training. Dusted down the BMC road bike for it's first outing in 2025. I did a few extra miles on the way home but my hip is killing me. Also I forgot how much I hate riding a road bike through the city. Thankfully the hub is making horrendous noises and vibrating the whole bike so gives me a good reason to jump back on the trusty Whyte hybrid for tomorrows return visit.
