Phew! It's going to be a hot one today here in the SE. 32° predicted, peaking tomorrow. Times like these, the best thing to do is take it easy on the ride. Yeah right 😁

Already very warm this morning, definitely tempo riding, I didn't even try to stick with the roadie whom I might have been able to draft in with. Last week, also fine riding with no incidents.

A rare repeat customer for Avon and Somerset police this morning. Usually the first contact has a positive effect, but this driver who I'd reported in March this year for similar bad driving in the same location, overtook the driver behind me as I was approaching a bend, before meting out a fast close pass on me and forcing an incomer to brake sharply to avoid a collision.

There's a wheelchair sticker on the back of the van asking for space.. 🤷🤦🚴

I expect prosecution this time although we rarely get told of the outcome.

Scary stuff that, not good at all.
How long does it take you to report? Is it online with an option to upload the video or do you need to go to the police station?

Yes, a very dangerous bit of driving. Put everyone else around him in danger just to get in front a few seconds earlier.

It's all online in Avon & Somerset. With a good broadband connection it can take less than 5 mins to upload 3 or 4 2-min video files and file a report. I hope they will prosecute this time, but the feedback is not great so I may never know.

Hopefully the police take the right course of action against that maniac.

I have some confidence, but it would be nice to know more than warning letter, fixed penalty or prosecution. Maybe the driver will stop some time in the future and thank me for reporting him, so he could improve his driving before killing someone. :okay::laugh:

Excuse my ignorance - if the police decide to prosecute, will they disclose your name to the driver? Hopefully not.

I don't think so. They send a notice of intended prosecution usually, to ask the registered keeper to identify the driver, followed by a fixed penalty notice (£100 fine & 3 points) and sometimes offer a course instead if the driver is eligible.

If they deem it serious enough/too dangerous for the fixed penalty process, the driver can be summonsed to court, or if the driver disputes it they can deny the offence and ask for it to go to court. At that point the police will take a formal statement from me and my name (but not address) is on the statement.

Having said all that I have reported over 1100 drivers in six years, and only had to go to court four times.
