Tales from today's commute....

With it being such a nice evening I decided instead of the usual 4miles commute I'd make it 15miles which would get me to the start of the TdF highlights without the risk of encountering spoilers, PS a cyclist won 😉

punctured on the way in, at least it was only few hundred metres from the bike shed, but its typical rode home the day before in light rain, road is wet, and there are so many tiny flints and sharp bits of gravel that get washed off the fields onto the roads around here, and I have the stupidest tyres that came with the bike that have these 2 indented channels around the centre line circumference of the tyre that are the perfect size for grabbing tiny flints and bits of gravel, and I knew I should have done a wheel check when Id got home the night before and picked all the bits out the water had eased further into the tyre...but I didnt, and so as I hit the last kerb onto the shared path from the road the next day it forced whatever tiny bit of sharp stone Id been carrying around through the tyre into the tube and game over.

at least I always carry a spare inner tube, and the tyre whilst being an annoyingly puncture magnet design, is stupidly easy to change, it was just getting air into the tube was the problem as the communal pump we have at work doesnt seem to work that well anymore.

Sounds a right pain☹️. Why don't you change the tyres to something more resistant?

Monday Morning, quiet week last week. Shame same cant be said today, all the dickeheads were out in ful force. First morning I have had lights on made no difference may as well have been invisilbe. Pushed to the curb by aggressive driver as I came away from the ttrffic lights new sets of tyres almost ripped to shreds on the glasss (Anchor). Then a bit later on pushed to the curb by the bus turning into a blind corner no had that happen since last winter no point reporting as local bus company does sod all about complaints. Mornings like this I know I should have taken the car.

On my way in today after some leave, two guys kipping in sleeping bags on the edge of the Railway Path. Given the spaces around the place & heavy commuting traffic that's the cyclepath equivalent of sleeping in a gutter on an A road.

All the trains were fecked up this morning which was a great start to the working week. All trains to Bromley cancelled. So after waiting on the station platform for 45 minutes I got the slowest train in the known universe, the Thameslink stopping service to Greenwich. It takes an hour & 10 minutes. Tedious in extreme. I could have jumped off one of the stations along the line to make a ride of it, but as I was running late I jumped off at Greenwich. So a total cycle commute for this morning of 1 & half miles.

A mostly pleasant ride into work this morning- only one absolute idiot in a grey van. As I was cycling through Long Ashton, I was forced into the verge by this idiot as he decided to force his way through with oncoming traffic. He made it a grand total of 10 seconds down the road to the junction of Clarken Combe by Ashton Court before being held up traffic waiting to turn right. As I could filter through the traffic, I cleared the junction a couple of cars ahead of him and held a strong primary (I was cruising at close to 30mph due to a tailwind and slight downhill) before turning onto the shared path off the main road. As he blasted by, his window was down and he shouted something- couldn't quite make it out before he once again hit traffic to join the A370. As I once again passed him, him and his mate in the passenger seat gave me the finger- seriously- wtf? I'm moving faster than you, it's not me holding you up.0
Other than that d roughly 3 minutes of my day, quite a pleasant ride into work.

How far is your commute? Can you change your route, drive or get public transport occasionally?
Seems like you get more than your fair share of cr@ppy commutes on bike .

Commute back from work and the fire bugs are out. Noticed small fires skattered around bushes and trees starting from Lundwood Barnsley all the way to Manvers Rotherham on the TPT. By the time I got to Manvers the felled trees and dry grass fully ablaze smoke covering most of the Trail. Lady walking by had called the fire brigade.

Wasn't a commute but I got barged to the side going up this short but steep hill that's really badly surfaced (a lot worse than Google shows). The barge was bad enough but when I bounced back I was almost taken out by his sheep trailer. My first thought were, 'your sheep are OK but, I'm dead!'. There was no way he was deviating towards the verge and giving his sheep a bumpy ride!

Plums! Will be back for (many) more tomorrow; this was all I could for in the single small water bottle I had with me.

I go past a plum tree on my commute. Last year there were so many ripe ones that had fallen off and got wasted, unfortunately. This year I'll have a carrier bag ready and fill up, but I I'm gonna ask the house owner first, even though the branches overhang the pavement.

10 miles through southeast london par for the course round here, everyone drives over the speed limit and no one cares when you complain.
